Our COLCHROME ALLOYS are VERY RESISTANT TO ABRASION and represent an excellent alternative to alloy steel with much lower costs and excellent performances. Tested for years, they are a guarantee for our customers who use plates and blades for bitumen and concrete mixers.

COLCHROME STANDARD

Wear resistant alloy with chrome carbide islands (Cr 2% max) and a Brinell hardness of 480-520 HB.
High abrasion resistance of  about 1.4 times higher than that of alloyed steel plates.

USE: “Colchrome standard” alloys are mainly used for PLATES of bitumen and concrete mixers.

COLCHROME PLUS

Wear resistant alloy mainly composed  of a martensitic structure with complex chromium carbides and indicative hardness of Hb 650/750 after heat treatment.
Excellent abrasion resistance of about 1.8 times higher than that of alloyed steel plates and blades.

USE: “Colchrome plus” alloys are mainly used for BLADES of bitumen and concrete mixers but they are also required for PLATES.

One of the standard castings we have been producing for years concerns the Ni-Resist cast iron bars that we supply to a wide range of customers.

The bars are made of a non-magnetic austenitic ductile cast irons (ASTM A439 TYPE D-2C alloy) which has excellent resistance to mineral acids, sea water and heat, with the advantage of having a low percentage of chromium and therefore it is easier to work.

We produce bars for various needs and with different diameters starting from 30 up to 150 ø

They are mainly used in the valve sector, where nuts or screws with anticorrosive characteristics obtained through mechanical processing, are required.

Quality check and final testing of our castings are both carried out within the company: this   allows us a less desultory and more efficient management, therefore we are able to provide our customers  with a guaranteed effective service.

In the production phase, in order to control our cast irons and alloys, we use cutting edge  machinery like Leco CS-125 to determine Carbon and Sulfur, our computerized spectrometer, microscopes for metallographic analysis and microhardness tests on matrixes, digital equipment  for mechanical tests, modern equipment for ultrasonic analyses and machines for magnaflux controls.

In the post-production phase, in accordance  to our customer’s requests, we begin our final testings: our qualified  technicians perform mechanical, micrographic, magnetoscopic, dye penetrants , dimensional and marking controls on the supplied iron castings.
At the end of our final inspections, we provide certificates that guarantee the compliance of the iron castings  we produce, in accordance with standards and the customers’ requests.

For many years we have been supplying Loesche,  a global market leader in vertical roller mill technology for the cement industry since 1906, with our wear-resistant castings.

• How long has Loesche been working with Fonderia Colombo Giuseppe ?
  We have been working together for 7 years. We started our partnership in 2012.

• Which types of iron castings does Fonderia Colombo Giuseppe provide Loesche with?
  Fonderia Colombo Giuseppe supplies us with grinding tires and plates in Ni-hard IV and Chrome alloys  for vertical grinding mills, reaching a weight up to 13 tons. These wear resistant iron castings are devoted both to new projects on vertical grinding mills and for spare components on already consolidated plants.

• Are you satisfied with the quality check and final testings carried out by Fonderia Colombo Giuseppe ?
  The quality of the materials is exceedingly high and final testings, in agreement with international standards,  are more than satisfying.

• What do you think about the dedicated department inside Fonderia Colombo Giuseppe that deals with quality check  and  final testings?
  I think it guarantees a very efficient service.  Having a close relationship and direct correspondence with the same known group of people is an additional benefit together with the fact that final inspections on the iron castings are carried out inside the foundry. Our partnership has develop into a relationship of trust that has been cementing over time.

As a result, a new range of products has been developed which guarantee the customer a good trade-off between wear resistance and value for the money. These alloys are an advantage for Italian concrete mixer and similar plants producers who will be able to compete with a high quality product at low cost.

We have achieved great success with the alloy we call Colchrome Standard, a low-alloyed white cast iron with Brinell hardness of 480 : 520 HB, which has been widely requested in the concrete mixing field, finding an excellent use in liner plates of the mixers as an alternative to Hardox 500 laminates.

Since the 1950s our foundry has been studying and developing new wear-resistant materials in our technological laboratory to replace certain types of special steels used in the past for machine parts and plants particularly affected by abrasion.  The results have been excellent and the market has welcomed our new products.

They are used widely in various industrial sectors such as cement factories, sand extraction quarries, crushing mills for abrasive materials, dredging pumps, surface treatment plants and other sectors, where abrasion reduction is necessary  and traditional materials cannot compete.

Today our company specializes in the production of these alloys whose success continues.

The constant internal research for technological improvements and our acquired experience over the years together with our customers allow us to offer proven successful technical solutions like our range of alloys specifically selected for each required use.

In 1883 CARLO COLOMBO at the age of twelve, begins working as an apprentice in the Pensotti Andrea foundry in Legnano, contributing to the household finances that were suffering following his father’s premature death.  After twenty six years of hard work, during which he became a highly skilled worker, Carlo decides to go in business for himself, opening a small iron castings foundry in San Giorgio su Legnano. It was the year 1909.

Through his hard work and great dedication, Carlo achieves rapid success, offering quality castings to the factories that were growing in the industrial area north of the city of Milano. In the ‘20s, the “Carlo Colombo S.P.A.” foundry expands and modernizes its operations, employing more than three hundred workers.

In 1938, Carlo’s son, Giuseppe, follows in his father’s footsteps and opens a small foundry of his own,   Fonderia Getti Speciali COLOMBO GIUSEPPE DI CARLO,  in San Giorgio su Legnano.

Giuseppe Colombo, following the strict discipline learned from his father, keeps growing his business introducing new and modern productive systems.
Already in the year 1945 the factory occupies 7.000 square meters, of which  3.000 covered. Today the factory occupies 23.000 square meters of which  12.000 are covered.

In 1952 sees the beginning of ductile and wear-resistant Ni-Hard spheroidal cast iron production adopting the Nickel Mond Ltd patented process.
In 1960 a new product – high chromium alloys – is introduced:  a special alloys with a high percentage of chromium, used where high impact and wear resistance is required.
In the 1960s, Giuseppe’s two sons, Giancarlo and Eugenio join the family business; Giancarlo  is involved in managing a new activity (in 1945  ICMA San Giorgio  is incorporated with the task of supporting the foundry, initially manufacturing machines for wood processing and in 1965 manufacturing patented twin-screw extruders for the emerging plastics industry) while
Eugenio takes the role of the foundry’s managing director.
He directs the production towards specialized sectors in particular those where high wear-resistant alloys are employed.
in order to maintain a high level of competition, a full factory revamping is carried out and increasing importance is given to modern production and quality controls with emphasis on final inspection.
At the beginning of the 1990s the firm is ready to obtain Iso 9000 certification, which is awarded in 1993.
Since 2007 Eugenio’s son Giuseppe,  has taken the role of foundry’s new managing director, aiming at growing export and maintaining the family standards of outstanding quality.
Since 1900s, the firm has been producing castings for the power plant industry sector, gaining through the years a competitive market position, particularly in turbo gas and wind mill plants. Another leading sector is the production of  wear, chemical and heat resistant castings for different industry fields.

This year we are proud to celebrate the 80th anniversary.
Long years and four generations of entrepreneurs have gone by, but the mission hasn’t changed: the devotion to high quality, an open mind toward innovation and a constant attention to our customers’ needs
